Aquiares Estate is one of Costa Rica's oldest and largest coffee farms, producing coffee continuously since 1890 on the fertile slopes of the Turrialba Volcano. Entre Ríos, meaning "between rivers" , is named after the Aquiares and Turrialba Rivers that border the estate.
Aquiares has been Rainforest Alliance Certified since 2003 and, in 2012, became the first coffee farm in Costa Rica to achieve the Rainforest Alliance Climate Module certification. Today, the estate is 100% carbon neutral and carbon negative, sequestering more carbon than it produces. It also hosts internationally recognised climate research, working with CIRAD and CATIE on long-term studies measuring carbon sequestration in shaded coffee systems to help develop practical climate solutions for coffee producers worldwide.
